Domestic Violence The Church Mental Illness

Domestic Violence Awareness Training

Domestic Violence Awareness and Training

My wife Lizzie and I lead the Dudley Christian Fellowship in the West Midlands. We have a passion in our hearts to encourage local churches to reach out and change their community with the practical love that flows out of the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Lizzie and I hope and pray that a Domestic Violence Awareness Training event will not only be of benefit to you but will also create ripples and waves that will carry the ministry of local churches to hurting and broken lives.

There is of course nothing innovative about a seminar on domestic violence, however what may be considered unique is that it is the Church who are hosting an event and seeking to address the issue of domestic violence from a Christian perspective.

Composition of a Training / Awareness Event
- An event can last two—three hours on a week night or six hours on a Saturday.
- The training / awareness event takes a multimedia approach using video, music and power point. Seminar notes are also provided.

The aims of this event are to...
Increase awareness and understanding of domestic violence as an issue of social concern.
Understand and challenge some traditional religious concepts about violence in the home.
Encourage an effective response from the Church.
Increase empathy with victims of domestic violence.
Increase courage with wisdom to confront domestic violence.

Content of a Training / Awareness Event
Training will take you through the following six points in the cycle of domestic violence offering a glimpse of what life is like for a victim of domestic abuse.
TENDERNESS explaining all is seemingly well until under pressure or the perpetrator is in the mood to beat his victim. This is where the cycle of abuses begins and ends
TENTION which reveals the atmosphere victims live with. Here the question “What makes a person a perpetrator?” is answered.
THREATS which describes the power & control tactics used by perpetrators.
THUMPING which provides definitions of domestic abuse. Abuse is more than physical and involves spiritual roots.
TURNING which explains how perpetrators make their way back into the victims home and affections. Also suggesting ways in which the Church can help.
TRAP which explains how victims become trapped in an abusive relationship. Answering the questions “Why Stay?” Why not just walk out?”

Cost of a Training / Awareness Event
While we do not change for this ministry as would be expected we do have expenses which we leave to the host’s discretion.
